Slow and Steady Wins the Race

Beach Vacation

on May 29, 2010

This post is late.  I meant to put it together last weekend, but never found the time.  I am writing it after a long day of cleaning, organizing and kid wrangling.  I will try to write something that makes sense, but I can’t promise anything.

A couple weekends ago, we headed out to the southern beaches of NC for a mini vacation with some friends.  It was a much needed break from the daily grind.  The only unfortunate thing about it was that my husband had to leave a day early to come home and start his new job.  The rest was pure bliss.  We got out of bed in no particular hurry to do anything.  Rounded up all of our gear (which was out of control when you add kids and adults and all their crap) and headed out to the beach.  We would set up camp with beverages and snacks and do beachy things:  Hunt for shells, build sand castles, played some bocce ball, drank beer (adults not the kids), a Frisbee was thrown around (I didn’t participate since it requires coordination) and played in the water.  Ian LOVES the water.  He thinks it is hilarious to get pushed around by the waves.  He would spend the entire day in the surf break if we would let him.

Ian also got his very first fishing pole.  It’s a toy Spongebob pole with plankton on the end and not a hook.  He had a blast casting that thing all over the beach.  I have an adorable picture of him showing me his casting technique.  I think you will agree.

He also did some “fishing” on the boat with Daddy.

He even shared his fishing pole with his new friend Small Fry

He wanted Small Fry to love the water as much as he does

A good time was had by all.  Ian asked if we could go to the beach when he got up this morning.  I wanted to pack the car and go right then, but I am sure the house we rented is now occupied by someone else.  I don’t think they would be willing to let us crash their beach weekend.

I don’t know who else as a child was a fish and would spend the whole day in the surf break if you let her????

  2. Oh, Ann – I LOVE this post! 🙂

You guys remind me sooooo much of my youngest sister, her husband and their three kiddos (1 going on 20, 2 1/2 going on 12, and almost 9 going on 15). Whew! They pick up and go….kid and adult crap and all – most weekends, whether it’s camping, fishing, beaching, the pool, or who knows what.

Looks like you guys had a great time and Small Fry was a willing beach and fishing partner. How totally cute!

You guys really need to plan a family vaca here in FL so we can all hang out. (Or we’ll ALL come up there! LOL).

Hope you found something fun to do since deciding that beach-house crashing wasn’t a good idea. 🙂

And yes, it looks like it was the perfect weekend. Wishing you many more this summer!

    HUGS from Orlando!
