Slow and Steady Wins the Race

Week 5, Day 1

I am taking on Week 5 and the first run was an amazing success.  This week is different than the previous 4 since each day has different runs.  Day 1 is three intervals of 5 minute runs with a 3 minute walk in between intervals.  I never struggled to complete a run, never had to have the mental battle to keep going and was able to control my breathing rather well.  The hill that was my nemesis in Week 4 doesn’t have the power to take my breathe completely away now.  It is a great to see the hill coming and not be filled with dread.  The 5 minute runs didn’t even seem like they lasted an eternity and I thought they would.  I think one thing that was very helpful was I had a very busy day yesterday and so most of the run I was going over all the things I had to do in my head.  I have to get better at letting my mind wander while I am running.

I finally made it over to Dick’s Sporting Goods and got some cold weather gear.  I needed it yesterday since it was so cold outside.  I still need to pick up something to cover my ears.  I thought they were going to freeze and fall off on Saturday.  

I hope to tackle Day 2 tomorrow, but it will depend on the weather.  If I can’t run outside maybe I can get access to a treadmill.  Day 2 has two 8 minute runs with a 5 minute recovery in between.  I think I can go for 8 minutes if I can keep my mind off the time.  If I am not comfortable with the 8 minute runs the first go round I will probably stick to day 2 for a bit.
